i make some pret-ty tasty sugar cookies. yep, i have an old navy credit card and i make good cookies? someone get this girl a batch of babies! she's basically an a+ mother!
these cookies are brad's fave and it's his birthday soon and since he is basically a five year old in a grown ass man's body...cupcake cookies with frosting and sprinkles it is! the whole nine yards, folks.

are you dying for my sugar cookie recipe? i can tell that you are. you are aren't you? well friends, i do aim to please. and what's the super secret ingredient that makes these so super special? sour cream! gasp! i know! but it makes them the softest cookies around, which is always a crowd pleaser...i would know i handed out a whole plate at a barnes and noble once. only kidding, but i wish that was true.
and now with out any further jokes or lies, the recipe! after the jump!

for the dough:
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, at room temperature
1 + 1/2 cup white sugar
1 large egg
1 cup sour cream
3 + 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
pinch of salt
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon almond or lemon extract -- you choose!

mix together all of the dry ingredients in a bowl. cream the butter and sugar on high speed until light and creamy. turn the speed down, and add the egg -- mix until well incorporated. add the sour cream, mix until completely mixed, scraping down sides throughout. add the flour mixture gradually. add flavorings and mix until the dough is firm and all of the ingredients are well incorporated.

wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill until ready to use -- about two hours. once ready, roll the dough out on a floured surface and cut desired shapes. bake the cookies for 7-10 minutes at 350 degrees.

for the frosting:
i never really use the same frosting for these cookies. sometimes i do royal icing sometimes buttercream, whatever you're in the mood for! on this particular batch i did cream cheese, which really is my favorite. here's my recipe:
1, 8 ounce package of cream cheese, at room temperature
1 stick unsalted butter, at room temperaure
2-3 cups powdered sugar -- to desired sweetness and consistency
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract

beat the butter and cream cheese on high speed for about 5 minutes, until fluffy and light. gradually add the powdered sugar on low speed. increase speed to high once all of the sugar has been added and beat for another 5 minutes or so. add the vanilla and continue beating. the consistency will be softer the less powdered sugar you add and stiffer the more you add, so keep that in mind! should be creamy and oh so, delicious.

grab some food coloring, sprinkles, candy, whatever! and go nuts!
